Aikido TherapyThis therapy was designed, developed and founded in 2004 by Chris McCormac and Mary Hoban as a response to addictions in all its many forms. Any problem of a recurring nature may benefit; such as addictive, emotional or behavioural. Aikido Therapy is a non-confrontational style of therapy. It is aimed at empowering the person to take the critical action required to make critical changes in their lives. Aikido Therapy is based on four separate, but complementary, disciplines and is informed by both modern and ancient philisophies:- 1. Aikido - a Japanese Martial Art which has, at its heart, the principle of non-destruction of the self and non-destruction of others. 2. Sanshin - a study of awareness and presence in the moment. 3. Adult Continuing Education Philosophy - here we explore what it is to be an adult and challenge hidden assumptions carried forward 4. Counselling - our style is based on non-disclosure. We do not need to know what your life story is, only that you wish to make a Aikido Therapy introduces knowledge about the physical balance and unbalance in the body. This is, then, internalised through analogies to explore balances, unbalances and power lines in a person's behaviour, emotions and thought patterns. Aikido Therapy is designed as an intervention for people who are in recovery from addictions of all types including substance abuse, gambling, food and sex addiction. Aikido Therapy has also been used to deal with bereavement, stress management, relationship difficulties, conflict resolution and communication breakdown. A person partaking in Aikido Therapy can expect to be introduced to methods of accessing their power within. This is done through light physical movement, discussion, dialogue and meditation in a non-judgemental environment. Our style of delivery is dual facilitation to groups, families, companies and individuals or can be tailor made to suit your personal needs. Chris and Mary have worked in residential and day rehab centres for the past four years. Related Therapists: |
