Auricular (Ear) Acupuncture

Auricular (Ear) Acupuncture is a specialised therapy where acupuncture points on the outer ear are treated, using either needles or acupunctoscopes (electrical location and stimulation machines) to help relieve many complaints.

All the head acupuncture points (eg. throat, tonsils, sinuses) for example, are located on the ear lobe. All the major organs (eg. heart, lungs, liver) are located in the concha or ‘well’ of the ear, and the lower limbs are positioned at the ‘top’ of the ear, as are the acupuncture points for the knees, toes and ankles.

There are over 200 acupuncture points on the ear, each named after an area of our anatomy. Each acupuncture point being treated, triggers electrical impulses, from the ear, via the brain, to the specific part of the body being treated. The outer ear acts like a switchboard to the brain. Therefore if somebody had a painful knee, for example, by treating the ‘knee’ acupuncture point on the ear, it would help alleviate the pain.
